UWAC 2012 | Defining the Future
For its seventh annual conference, UWAC partnered with iconic Tim Hortons, Canada’s largest fast food company. The theme, “Defining the Future”, focused on financial planning, and its enormous impact on businesses. It emphasized the importance of properly managing financial resources through the usage of budget and cost accounting principles to meet and exceed one’s goals.

David Denison
President and CEO, CPP Investment Board
David Denison is the President and CEO of the CPP Investment Board, providing leadership for the organization and all of its investment activities.In his seven years as the President and CEO of CPPIB, David has nearly doubled the funds that 18 million Canadians will rely on for future retirement benefits. Outside of the organization, David is also an active contributor to the community, holding positions as the Vice-Chair of the Canadian Coalition for Good Governance and a director for The United Way of Greater Toronto. He is a graduate of the University of Toronto with an undergraduate degree in mathematics and education. Following six years as an educator, he earned his CA and began his career in business. He is currently a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario.
Karen Maidment
Board of Directors, TransAlta Corporation and Toronto-Dominion Bank
As Canada’s CFO of the Year in 2006, Karen Maidment currently serves on the board of directors of TransAlta Corporation as well as TD Ameritrade Holding Corporation and The Toronto-Dominion Bank. From 2007 to 2009, Karen was the Chief Financial and Administrative Officer of the Bank of Montreal Financial Group. Before that, from 2000 to 2007, she served as the CFO of BMO Financial Group. She has also held executive positions and has been a director of many other groups. Karen holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from McMaster University and is a Chartered Accountant. In 2000, she was named a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario. For many years, Karen has been listed on the Financial Post’s “Power 50″ feature of top Canadian businesswomen.
Brandon Love

Brandon Love is not your average motivational speaker. He is an expert in psychology, youth engagement, and in helping others discover new and exciting possibilities. Brandon pursued a degree in Philosophy and Psychology, and most recently graduated from teachers’ college at the University of Toronto, while facilitating with The Beanstalk Project. Brandon is the World’s First Self-Proclaimed Student of Wonder; he has dedicated his life to understanding and celebrating the wonders of the mind. As a professional magician, he is experienced in engaging people and making meaningful connections. Travelling across North America, Brandon hopes to awaken students to their creative potentials through his interactive, thoughtful, and magic-filled presentations. In his wildest dreams, the world is full of self-directed learners, united in their ability to experience, and appreciate wonder.
