FAQ

  1. What is UWAC?

UWAC stands for University of Waterloo Accounting Conference. It was founded in 2006 and UWAC 2011 will be the sixth annual conference. UWAC is a three-day conference with a unique focus on accounting and features a case competition and prominent speakers.

  2. What will I do as a coordinator?

There are numerous tasks involved in becoming a part of the committee, and the full list of these tasks cannot actually be listed on this website. However, to give you an idea, some responsibilities a coordinator may have range from researching potential speakers, contacting external universities, designing marketing material or planning social events.

  3. Coordinator tasks seem to be very demanding and I’m unsure whether I will be able to do them all.

We all started off in your shoes! A key focus of your role as a Coordinator is learning and development, and you will be able to accomplish all the things you want to do and more. We know that because every past team member has been able to do so. Please visit “Learning and Development” at the top bar as well as the coordinator position you are interested in to learn more about what you will do as a Coordinator!

  4. How much time will I need to devote to UWAC throughout the year?

All coordinators are required to attend weekly meetings throughout the year. In addition, coordinators will have weekly tasks or projects to work on throughout the year. Depending on the time of year and assigned tasks, the hours (including meetings) may be approximately 10 hours per week in the fall term, 15 hours per week in the winter term, and the entire week leading to and including the conference.

  5. Is it possible to balance UWAC with school, my other extracurriculars, and the coop process?

Of course! UWAC does require quite a few hours and a lot of dedication. However, everyone on the team is always there to support you throughout the year. We do not simply gather together to work on the conference and then disperse. We can provide advice on courses and assignments. If there is an upcoming assignment or midterm, we have been through the process before as well, and understand the demanding schedule that is required.
