Colleen Johnston, FCA (Keynote Speaker)
Group Head Finance and CFO, TD Bank Financial Group
In a career that spans almost 30 years, Colleen Johnston has been a member of some of Canada’s most distinguished organizations including Price Waterhouse, Scotiabank and currently, TD Bank.As the CFO and Group Head Finance at TD Bank, Colleen oversees external and regulatory financial reporting, investor relations and tax management among other things. During her tenure at Scotiabank, she served in a variety of capacities, ranging from Managing Director and Chief Financial Officer of Scotia Capital to Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer for Scotiatrust.
Recently elected as a Fellow Chartered Accountant (FCA) by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario, Colleen will be an invaluable addition to UWAC 2010. Her insights and experience in the accounting and finance industry, in particular, the strategic management aspect, will only serve to enrich everything the delegates will be learning at the conference.
Bill Thomas, FCA (Keynote Speaker)
CEO and Senior Partner, KPMG LLP
Bill Thomas is Chief Executive Officer and Senior Partner of KPMG, providing leadership and direction for the firm’s business across Canada. In addition to his leadership role in the Canadian firm, Bill is a member of KPMG’s Americas Board and Global Executive Team.
Since beginning his career with KPMG in Vancouver in 1990, Bill has delivered audit services to some of the firm’s largest clients in many industries. He served as Audit Leader for the firm’s Greater Vancouver practice, and was subsequently appointed Office Managing Partner. In 2007 he relocated to Toronto to serve as the firm’s Deputy CEO, and was appointed CEO and Senior Partner on January 1, 2009.
Bill was the recipient of Business in Vancouver’s Forty-under-Forty award in 2002, which recognizes BC’s top 40 outstanding young entrepreneurs, executives, managers and professionals. In addition to his Chartered Accountant designation he holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of British Columbia. Active in the community, Bill currently serves on the Board of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra and is a member Toronto Board of Trade and the Canadian Council for Chief Executives. He is a past director of British Columbia’s CA School of Business, the BC Business Council (BCBC), and Arts Umbrella, a fine arts school for children. He also chaired the Finance Committee of the 2006 World Junior Hockey Championships.
Peter Greenwood, MA, FCS, FCIS
Group Executive Director – Strategy, China Light and Power Holdings
Mr. Peter Greenwood is the Group Executive Director – Strategy of CLP Holdings, reporting to the Chief Executive Officer. His principal focus is to work on matters of a strategic nature impacting the overall direction of the CLP Group. He is also responsible for the oversight of CLP Group's corporate secretarial and legal affairs. He is also the Chairman of CLP Huanyu (Shandong) Biomass Heat and Power Co. Ltd.; and a Director of CLP Shandong Biomass Projects Co. Ltd., TRUenergy Holdings Pty Ltd, The Hong Kong Heritage Project Ltd. and CLP Nuclear Investment Co. Ltd.
Before joining the CLP Group in 1995, Mr. Greenwood was a Senior Commercial Lawyer with the Provisional Airport Authority, Hong Kong, and prior to that was in private practice as a solicitor with leading corporate law firms in London, Hamburg, Hong Kong and Paris.
Mr. Greenwood holds an MA degree in law from the University of Cambridge and a diploma in German law and legal system from the University of Tuebingen and the Justice Ministry of North Rhine-Westphalia. He is a Fellow of The Institute of Chartered Secretaries in England and a Fellow of The Hong Kong Institute of Chartered Secretaries. He is a solicitor in England and Wales and in Hong Kong, as well as being qualified as an avocat in France.
Rozanne E. Reszel, FCA, CA, MBA (Keynote Speaker)
President and CEO, Canadian Investor Protection Fund (CIPF)
Rozanne E. Reszel is the current President of the Canadian Investor Protection Fund (CIPF) and an alumnus of the University of Waterloo. In her current role at the CIPF, Rozanne ensures that in the event of investment dealer insolvency, client assets are protected and are returned to them. Prior to joining the CIPF, she served as the Vice President of Client Services at Nesbitt Thomson.
Rozanne was recognized for her achievements in 2000, when she was elected as a Fellow Chartered Accountant (FCA) by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario. Moreover, she is also a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), as well as being a graduate of the Harvard Business School, where she obtained her MBA. With her extensive background in accounting, finance and business administration, Rozanne is a natural additon for UWAC 2010. The various leadership roles she has held throughout her career will help delegates understand the importance of strategic management and “setting the stage” in their business careers.
Andy Thibodeau (Motivational Speaker)
Since 1992, Andy has delivered thousands of fun presentations to schools and conferences across North America. 2 million people have seen him speak in all 10 provinces, the Yukon and 38 US states. His energy and enthusiastic presentations have never failed to make an impact on the audience, always leaving them with something to think about.
UWAC 2010 is excited to have Andy on board as his thought-provoking and motivating presentations will no doubt be an inspiration to our delegates. Andy’s presentation will definitely help delegates reflect on their UWAC experience and what they have learned over the three day affair.
