Named as Canada’s most innovative university in the Maclean’s Magazine reputation survey for 15 years in a row, the University of Waterloo is well known as an innovative leader in education and research. In coherence with this spirit of innovation, the University of Waterloo’s School of Accounting and Finance (SAF) is the only professional school of its kind in Canada. Designed to meet the need for a multi faceted education, the School of Accounting and Finance offers 3 unique undergraduate programs and 3 graduate programs that provide students with the technical, analytical, leadership, and communication skills needed to prepare for successful careers in accounting and finance.

The School of Accounting and Finance

Fully accredited by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario, the Master of Accounting program (MAcc) offered by the School of Accounting and Finance allows students to continue their professional studies, prepare for professional exams, and earn exemptions towards becoming a Chartered Accountant or Certified Management Accountant. Students of the MAcc are eligible to write the Chartered Accountant’s Uniform Evaluation (UFE) or CMA-Ontario’s Phase 4 of the Strategic Leadership Program immediately upon graduation.

The alumni and faculty members of University of Waterloo’s are among the top professionals in their industries. In 2009, University of Waterloo alumnus Marrianne Bridge (BMath ’81) was elected a Fellow of the Ontario Institute of Chartered Accountants (FCA), the highest designation that the Institute confers to honour members who have given outstanding service to the profession or brought distinction to it. In the same year, Accounting alumnus and SAF Fellowship Honouree, Rod N. Barr (BA ’69), FCA, was named President and CEO of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario.
